Dr Sumit Konar started his current position as an Instrument Scientist (solid-state materials) in the University of Lincoln in 2022. After moving to University of Lincoln, Dr Konar was able to secure an EPSRC grant at the Network heating and cooling sandpit event, and as a PI and led a 6-month project entitled “Solid-solid phase change materials for thermal energy storage applications.” As a PI, Dr Konar was also awarded several synchrotron and neutron beamtimes at the national facilities such as ESRF, MAX-IV, DESY, DLS, and ISIS facilities.

After moving to the University of Lincoln, Dr Konar has been actively involved in regular weekly commercial projects through the newly established R&D facility, the Bridge.

Dr Konar is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) - HEA 2024.

Prior to his current role, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh (2016-2022). At the University of Edinburgh, he was affiliated both to the School of Chemistry and to the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions – a multi-disciplinary center focused on the study of materials under extreme conditions. During his postdoctoral research, Dr Konar was successful in obtaining a Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) grant as a PI. Through this project he developed a novel prototype solar PV cooker, for cooking at night, based on solid-solid phase-change materials.

Dr Konar obtained his PhD degree under the supervision of Prof Ulrich Haussermann at Stockholm University (2015). During his PhD he studied salt-like metal carbides (lithium carbide and calcium carbide) and metal intercalated graphite under high-pressure-temperature conditions.
